From: Meanderings in New Jersey's Medical History, By Michael Nevins, 2011
"Johannes grew up in New Amsterdam and learned the medical trade from his father. [false. He grew up in Wiltwyck and his father died when he was four years old.] He was Bergen County's first medical doctor. He moved to Hackensack about 1685 and practiced from his home located on what became known as Doctor's Creek. He must have done fairly well, because in 1698 he and a partner, David Provost, bought 250 acres of wilderness land to the north in an area the Indians called Hoghakas. The purchase prices was equivalent to $10,000. At some point, he moved to what became Ridgewood, there's no evidence he practiced medicine there, it's where he died in 1729."
