    John N van Amber, one of the oldest citizens of Jefferson county, died at the home of his son, O. D. van Amber in this city aged 88 years. Mr van Amber came to this county from Saratoga in 1823. He had been a member of the Arsenal St Methodist church for 50 years and was an exemplary man in all relations of life.
