A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday August 6, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls, Minnesota with Pastor Gary Brandenburg officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday at the church and will resume one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Inurnment will be in the Rolling Forks Cemetery in Pope County, Minnesota. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Eleanor Jean Jergenson was born on May 16, 1935 in Forada, Minnesota, to Floyd Clemens and Dorothy Ruth (Alm) VanAmber. She was the eldest of four children. Jean was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Villard. She attended Forada area country school, Villard High School and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953. On April 16, 1955, Jean was united in marriage to Glen DuWayne Jergenson at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They lived on the Jergenson family farm in Rolling Forks Township. Jean was a dedicated housewife and mother, raising their five children. She also enjoyed being a farmwife and spent many hours helping Glen with the farm work. Jean was active in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, having held many offices on the church council and WELCA, as well as regularly attending Circle meetings. She and Glen were former members of the Chapter #129 Order of the Eastern Star, having served as past Worthy Matron and Patron. Her hobbies included reading, needlework, family activities and especially her grandchildren. On December 31, 2008, Jean suffered a debilitating stroke and recovered at St Cloud Hospital and Glenwood Retirement Home. She and Glen lived at Ridgewood Villa in Glenwood for a time and eventually moved back to the farm. She lived at the farm until October, 2012 when she entered Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria. While a resident at Knute Nelson, Jean was very content and made many special friends. She received excellent care and enjoyed many of the staff. Jean will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by Glen, her husband of 58 years, children Kim (Kimberly) Jergenson of Marshall, Brian (Laura) Jergenson of Glenwood, Cindy (Stephen) VanLuik of Alexandria, Darby (Bill) Bowen of Glenwood and Jill (Brian) Kent of East Bethel. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ryan (Carol) Jergenson of Fargo, Joseph Jergenson of Brainerd, Taylor Jergenson of Bloomington, Collin Jergenson of Bloomington, Lisa (Matt) Wourms of Moorhead, Aric (Elizabeth) Bowen of Glenwood, Angela (Nathan) Jenniges of Brooten, Jenna Kent and Jaelynn Kent of East Bethel; five great- grandchildren, Zane Jergenson of Fargo, Eric and Aidan Bowen of Glenwood, and Truman and Teagan Jenniges of Glenwood. Jean is also survived by her sister, Gayle Johnson of Alexandria; brother, Glenn VanAmber of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Carol VanAmber of Amery, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, December 11th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls and will continue on Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service. Glen DuWayne Jergenson was born on April 9, 1934, in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, Minnesota to George and Mabel (Johnson) Jergenson. He was the seventh of eight children. Glen was baptized and confirmed at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church. He attended District #14, Glenwood High School and received his G.E.D. in 1974. On April 16, 1955, Glen was united in marriage to Eleanor Jean VanAmber at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They lived on the Jergenson family farm where he was born and farmed his entire life. He passed away peacefully the evening of December 5, 2015, surrounded by his family, after suffering a stroke. Glen was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, having served as a deacon and trustee of Rolling Forks and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He was named the Pope County Outstanding Young Farmer in 1967 by the Glenwood Jaycees. He was a past board member of the Glenwood Retirement Village where he served for 21 years, as well as a past board member of the Pope County Historical Society. Glen was a longtime member of the Glenwood Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. He also served as the Rolling Forks Cemetery sexton for many years. His hobbies included snowmobiling, ice fishing and deer hunting. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends and neighbors at the Swift Falls coffee shop, and all the family activities, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very proud of them all. Glen will be remembered for his soft, gentle nature, quick smile, the twinkle in his eye, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and a love of farming the land and being in the great outdoors. Glen will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his children, Kim (Kimberly) Jergenson of Marshall, Brian (Laura) Jergenson of Glenwood, Cindy (Stephen) VanLuik of Alexandria, Darby (Bill) Bowen of Glenwood, and Jill (Brian) Kent of East Bethel. Rita was born November 12, 1919 in Ottertail County, MN. She was the daughter of Anton and Helen (Joos) Cichy. Rita married George Van Amber in 1939 and had four children. She and her family lived in Benson and Montevideo, MN before moving to Menomonie, WI , where George operated the M & L Auto Parts business. Rita worked at Lee’s Drug Store while attending Stout University until she and George developed the Ideal Junque Shoppe and Trailer Court. Rita and her daughter, Janet, later wrote the series of Great Depression Historical Cookbooks and operated Van Amber Publishing Company along with Janet’s husband, Rich. Rita was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, a 45 year member of Home & Community Education, treasurer of Ideal Homemakers, a member of the Hearing Loss Association, and a member of the Red Cedar Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary.
