Wilbur Van Amber arrived at his home on Easton street from office duties Monday evening he was forcibly reminded that, like George Washington, he, too, was born on February 22d. Invited guests that had assembled to join in celebrating the event were County Clerk Peter J. Ulrich, County Treasurer Earle H. Barnes, County Superintendent of Highways Levi P. M. Gaylord, District Attorney Miller B. Moran, Walter Galloway, state highway engineer; Fay L. Parker and W. Frank Patten. The surprise over, Host Van Amber and his guests sat down to a fine dinner prepared by Mrs. Van Amber. The table decorations consisted of a mirror center piece, American flags, Martha Washington place cards, red, white and blue favors and two large candelabras. Following the dinner auction bridge was played, the first prize going to W. Frank Patten; second, Fay L. Parker; third, Levl P. M. Gaylord. Mr. Patten In behalf of the guests presented Mr. Van Amber with a handsome fountain pen desk set. Mr. Van Amber was born in New Bremen, February 22, 1885, son of the and Mrs. M. W. Van Amber, graduated from Lowville Academy with the class of 1905, the family having moved to this village from New Bremen in 1902. Mr. Van Amber served as deputy county clerk from April, 1919, to December, 1931, and for some time has been connected with the law office of Attorney Frank Bowman. He was elected clerk of the Board of Supervisors in January, 1929, succeeding the late Charles S. Mereness, which position he still holds, and has also been Clerk of the Lowvllle Board of Education since 1929, succeeding A. Karl Arthur, resigned. Mr. Van Amber has also served as secretary of the Republican county committee and been prominently identified with local affairs.
