E.Dean Hannel, 72, of Jacksonville, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014, after a long, courageous battle with cancer at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.
He was born Sept. 8, 1941, in Morgan County, the son of Floyd and Eloise Sanders Hannel. He married Lucille Ommen on Dec. 13, 1964, and she survives.
He is also survived by his children, David Hannel (Janet Proffitt) and Lori (husband, Randy) White, both of Jacksonville and Kevin (wife, Tricia) Hannel of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Matthew (wife, Lauren) Hannel of Noblesville, Ind., Airman First Class Brandon Hannel of Clovis, N.M., Erika White and Rachel White, both of Jacksonville, and Sam Hannel and Will Hannel, both of Bloomington; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Grace Hannel of Noblesville, Ind.; one brother, Ken (wife, Chris) Hannel of Cumming, Ga.; one sister, Betty Hart of Bluffs; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Hannel (surviving wife, Erma of Morrisonville).
Mr. Hannel owned and operated Hannel Oil Co. in Jacksonville for 40 years, delivering Amoco Petroleum Products to the farm and home. He also currently owns the truck stop on West Morton and the Chapin Fast Stop. He previously operated locations at Diamond and Morton, South Main and West streets in Jacksonville. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, and watching his grandchildren's ball games.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church with burial in Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church or School.
