Glen Jergenson, age 81, of Glenwood, MN, died Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 12th at 11:00 AM at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls. Visitation will be Friday, December 11th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls and will continue on Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Rolling Forks Cemetery, Rolling Forks Township, Pope County. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Glen DuWayne Jergenson was born on April 9, 1934, in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, Minnesota to George and Mabel (Johnson) Jergenson. He was the seventh of eight children. Glen was baptized and confirmed at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church. He attended District #14, Glenwood High School and received his G.E.D. in 1974. On April 16, 1955, Glen was united in marriage to Eleanor Jean VanAmber at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They lived on the Jergenson family farm where he was born and farmed his entire life. He passed away peacefully the evening of December 5, 2015, surrounded by his family, after suffering a stroke.
Glen was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, having served as a deacon and trustee of Rolling Forks and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He was named the Pope County Outstanding Young Farmer in 1967 by the Glenwood Jaycees. He was a past board member of the Glenwood Retirement Village where he served for 21 years, as well as a past board member of the Pope County Historical Society. Glen was a longtime member of the Glenwood Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. He also served as the Rolling Forks Cemetery sexton for many years.
His hobbies included snowmobiling, ice fishing and deer hunting. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends and neighbors at the Swift Falls coffee shop, and all the family activities, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very proud of them all. Glen will be remembered for his soft, gentle nature, quick smile, the twinkle in his eye, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and a love of farming the land and being in the great outdoors.
Glen will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his children, Kim (Kimberly) Jergenson of Marshall, Brian (Laura) Jergenson of Glenwood, Cindy (Stephen) VanLuik of Alexandria, Darby (Bill) Bowen of Glenwood, and Jill (Brian) Kent of East Bethel. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ryan (Carol) Jergenson of Fargo, Joseph Jergenson of Little Falls, Taylor Jergenson of Bloomington, Collin Jergenson of Richfield, Lisa (Matt) Wourms of Moorhead, Aric (Elizabeth) Bowen of Glenwood, Angela (Nathan) Jenniges of Glenwood, Jenna Kent and Jaelynn Kent of East Bethel; and nine great-grandchildren, Zane and Rylan Jergenson, Shelby Wourms, Eric, Aidan and Andrew Bowen, and Truman, Teagan and Ella Jenniges. Glen is survived by three sisters Esther Tharaldson of Starbuck, Doris Lagred of Starbuck, and Ione (Leo) Schwendemann of Shoreview; sister-in-law Hazel Jergenson of Glenwood, sister-in-law Gayle Johnson of Alexandria, brother-in-law Glenn (Dorothy) VanAmber of Alexandria, and many special nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean, in 2013; two sisters, Grace (Howard) Nelson, and Florence, who died in infancy; three brothers, Elmer (Rosella) Jergenson, Francis Jergenson, and Lloyd (Jean) Jergenson; two brothers-in-law Odean Tharaldson and Arnold Lagred, two nieces, Gail Baumer and Shelby Jergenson, and a nephew, Danny Jergenson.
