- WEST SPRINGFIELD - A. Stanley Newman, 75, of Woodmont Street died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family. Stan was born in Springfield the son of Albert S. and Annie (Cochrane) Newman and has lived in West Springfield most of his life. He graduated from Ludlow High School and W.N.E.C. before starting his career at the Springfield Armory. He later retired from Colt Manufacturing Company after 40 years in 1991. A longtime member of the Mittineague Congregational Church, Stan served as the Chairman of the Trustees. He was a member of the Springfield Sportsmen Club, the N.R.A. and served in the United States Navy. He leaves his wife of 50 years Carol A. (Topoosian) Newman; a son Eric A. Newman of Denver; a daughter Heather Newman Daniele of Wilbraham and two grandchildren Brenden Robert and Samantha Rose Daniele. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at 10:00 am followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
