Tues. Jan. 19, 1864

I finished up my guard today. Nothing to do but cook and get the wood

Wed. Jan. 20, 1864

Fine weather here now since the rains. Our regt is under arms today as inland picket.

Thu. Jan. 21, 1864

The weather is as fine and warm as it is at home in May. I washed today for my mess, 4 of them, it came to $1,20 besides some other washing. We had orders to pack up the books and take them with the officers things to the wagons.

Fri. Jan. 22, 1864

Very fine warm weather yet. We have had no snow yet to amount to anything. Pack up things and put them in our tents tonight. I am getting to be as fat as a boy, weight today 142 lbs.

I got a letter from my mother last night. It is the second one I have got from her

Sun. Jan. 24, 1864

Have written two letters today, one to mother, one to Ett. I feel homesick today
