Letter dated May 25th, 1864
May 25, 1864,
Ward D, Harewood General Hospital,
Washington, DC
Dearest wife,
Once more I will try to write to you to let you know how I am getting along. We left Fredericksburg yesterday about 4 o.c. Took the cars and rode to Aqua creek, about 15 miles. Got on to a little steamer and got into Washington this morning a little after sunrise. Got into an ambulance and was brought to this hospital. It is a very pleasant place. I don't expect to stay here a great while before they will send me to New York as soon as I am able. That will be soon. There I shall try to get a furlough and come home. I can't write any more this time. Direct yours to Harewood General Hospital, Ward 14 in Washington, DC. Write soon and I will get a letter from you while I am here. Write to mother and let know. No, you need not for I will write to her tomorrow myself No more this time. Write soon.
Yours Truly
